I found out recently that most of people were looking for a compact keyboard for travelling or maximizing space on their working desk. There are 2 wireless keyboards that are very popular and with supremria quality in the market ftom the 2 giant IT hardware supply companies, Microsoft Corp. and Logitech.

I'm not going to review their technical specification in detail because you can find them on their official website; Microsoft Arc Keyboard official page, Logitech Keyboard K340 official page. What I'm going to review is the critical comparison between those two devices.

Let's start with the dimension and keyboard layout

Both are smaller than a normal keyboard. Logitech K340 lays the Insert, Delete, Home, End, Page up and Page down buttons on the top rows and the arrow keys on the last row instead of grouping them together between the keypad and numpad like a normal keyboard.

The MS Arc is even smaller, the design is gone way too compact. The function keys, F7-F12 are grouped with F1-F6 and are accessible by using Fn key. The the Insert, Delete, Home, End, Page up and Page down buttons are laid on the top row. The right Ctrl button was cut off and the arrow keys are combined into a 4 ways navigator key placed next to the Fn key. If you are using the arrow keys a lot, you will never like it.

The height of the key buttons on MS Arc is lower than the Logitech K340's. I feel that the Arc's key buttons are more strong and use less effort to type on. However, comparing to K340, the Arc has gap between the keys (like Macbook's keyboard) which I don't really like it. I found that I hit more at the gap between the keys when I'm typing with Arc. In addition, the top row buttons of the Arc are different with other buttons of the lower rows. The feeling when you press it just like you are pressing a key on your cellphone.

Next the receiver

Both receivers are about the same size. From my opinion, the Arc's one is more difficult to pull off from the USB slot. Despite they are very similar in size but there is an advantage using the Logitech Unify Receiver because it enables you to add more Logitech's devices on your machine and share the same receiver.

Next the receiver storage

The receiver storage of Logitech K340 is under the battery cover. Microsoft Arc's receiver storage is made from a magnet. You can stick the receiver there without afraid of losing it.

Price, Battery, and Weight?

Logitech K340 is $49.99. Microsoft Arc is $59.99. Not really different.

Logitech K340 uses 2 AA batteries. Microsoft Arc uses 2 AAA batteries.

Microsoft Arc is much lighter. I can hold it using only 2 fingers.

Last the accessories

Microsoft Arc keyboard comes with a cheap black cloth keyboard sleeve. Logitech K340 comes with nothing.

Overall, no one is better than another one. You should buy what you like. For a big hand person, it seems like Logitech K340 is more suitable choice. If you want more working space on your desk, choose Microsoft Arc keyboard.
